Out With the Old, in With the New

Happy New Year 2020!

The end of one decade and the beginning of another . . . and here we are now. Last year, in 2019, I completed a collection of stories titled “The Black Hound and Other Stories.” It was the culmination of a series of stories I had worked on over the years (two decades or more) and I finally decided to publish them in a collection. You can read about it here or find it on Amazon here. It wraps up an era for me as an author, and brings that period of my writing career to a close (juvenilia and learning the craft of short story writing). I can say it is finally done. I published my old short stories in 2019 before the end of the fifth decade of my life. I’m getting older now . . . not much time left to waste. I’m still kicking and not done yet, so look out. I’m ready to hit a home run and knock that shit out of the ballpark. If you have a desire to read some short stories that I worked my ass off on then give these a read and leave me a comment (good or bad, I don’t care . . . anything is better than nothing).

Which brings me to the present . . . and how grand it is going to be this year. I’ve got three books slated for publication right off the bat: another short story collection titled “In Wrath and Fire: 25 Dark Tales,” and a collection of four novellas (title to be announced), and finally, a novel about vampires in a monstrous black 1975 Monte Carlo (title to be announced). These will hit the market as soon as I can get them finished up—and I’m working my ass off on them at a minimum rate of 2,000 words per day. I expect everything to be completed before summer of 2020 . . . and after that I’ve got another novel in the works (title to be announced). This is the beginning of an ambitious goal of at least one novel (and dozens of more short stories, more story collections, and novellas, too) per year for the next decade. This stands to be my busiest and most productive period of my life and writing career as I finish up a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and creative writing and keep working my ass off every day. I’m ready for it. Look out world, here I come.

So, as we begin this new year and decade of 2020, I am setting the bar extremely high, but I have every intention of meeting these goals. After the initial batch of books is self-published, I will attempt to find an agent and publish through other outlets, but I’m never going to give up on self-publishing completely. I have my own independent press, Stark Raven Press, which I may use to publish some of my books—which is highly likely, since there are so many books by aspiring writers out there that it is hard to see the forest for the trees. Nevertheless, I press on . . . and I hope you will buy one of my books, give it a read, and let me know what you think. All feedback is welcome, and I don’t care about scoffers and critics who don’t like my work, because that is to be expected. Bring it. Give me everything you’ve got. Then take a long walk off a short pier. That’s about how much I care about negative bullshit. There is too much of that today. Just saying. Okay. I’m off to bed and up early to write and go to work again, rinse, repeat, and do it again and again . . . until the day I die.

Happy new year! Have a wonderful day!
