Welcome to My Website!

I was born in the city of Aberdeen, Washington in 1970. I spent my formative years in a Tom Sawyeresque fashion, fishing and catching frogs on the muddy banks of the Hoquiam river, skateboarding in the Sunset Memorial Park cemetery because the pavement there was well maintained, and listening to scary stories told around the campfire at night. I discovered early on that storytelling was an art form I found irresistible and intriguing.

When I turned eighteen, I moved to Alaska and lived in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in the city of Wasilla for ten years and that is where I met my beautiful significant other, Angela Megl. She has been a part of my life ever since, and we are happy together to this day. We then moved to Indiana for ten years, living in the city of Martinsville. I enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington and obtained an Associate of Applied Science degree in computer information systems with a concentration in computer programming. Upon graduation from college, Angela and I decided to move west, back to Washington state, and now we both reside in Olympia—the Capitol City. I am currently earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and creative writing with a concentration in fiction from Southern New Hampshire University.

I started writing at the age of fifteen, inspired by a middle school composition class teacher who told me anyone can be a writer, if they so desire. I tried my hand at a few short stories and poems and was amazed by the outcome. I was instantly enamored with the seemingly magical process of creating art. I have been hooked ever since, unable to give up this maniacal obsession to put words together and create stories. In the beginning, I was inspired by authors such as Louis L’Amour, S. E. Hinton, Mark Twain, and Jack London. Later, I read works by Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, and Robert Louise Stevenson and was impressed by the classics. Ultimately, I discovered prolific contemporary writers like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Clive Barker and realized that I had found my niche. I like tales of horror, supernatural, and suspense and it reflects in what I read and write.

Writing is my passion and it has been a lifelong endeavor. I am devoted to the craft of creative writing and always strive to learn and improve. I look back and am pleased with most of my writing and publishing accomplishments and failures: I have garnered numerous rejections from established publications, while landing a few acceptances. I have been published in webzines, in print in college poetry anthologies, and have authored articles for Macabre Cadaver magazine. I have self-published books and articles on my own. I am the author of two collections of short stories titled, The Black Hound and Other Stories, and In Wrath and Fire: 30 Dark Tales, available on Amazon and other fine retailers. I am the creator of a small publishing venture known as Stark Raven Press.

When I am not busy writing I spend my time working, reading, and studying. Some of my hobbies include, computer programming, graphic design, hiking and nature walks, fishing, camping, bicycling, drawing, painting, playing guitar, and navel-gazing. Sometimes I can be found just relaxing in my easy chair with my Kindle and playing with my black cat named Raven.

Thank you for visiting my author website. I appreciate you immensely. Take a look around, sample my books, read some articles, sign up for my newsletter, send me a comment in my contact form. I appreciate your feedback.

Most importantly, thank you to all my readers. Without you this entire process of writing and publishing would be like the proverbial tree falling in the woods with no one to hear it. The point would be moot. I am forever grateful to each and every one of you.

Have a wonderful day, and happy reading.
